Financial support for attendance

Each year the ISPN awards a number of scholarships to facilitate attendance at our annual meetings for surgeons in training who wish to present a paper to the Society. Currently 6 such scholarships are made each year and the sum of $2,000 USD is given to subsidize travel and the registration fees for the meeting are waived.

The criteria for scholarships are as follows; the candidates must be less than 35 years old, must have their abstract accepted by the scientific program committee for either oral or poster presentation, must provide written proof of annual income, must have a letter of reference from their chairman or an active ISPN member and should not have recently received the award. Application for this award should be made directly to the Chairman of the Ways and means Committee through the link below but should only be made once you have received confirmation from the Scientific Committee that your paper has been accepted.

Surprisingly very few people have applied for scholarships in recent years and those that have done so seem to be 'the usual subjects'! We therefore actively encourage qualifying candidates to apply but please make sure that you include all the required information with your application as otherwise the process of selection becomes delayed, prejudicing everyoneís chance to make early travel arrangements and so keep the cost of travel down.

Final selection of the applicants is done by the Ways and Means Chairman and ratified by the Secretary and President of the ISPN. All applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application at least two months before the meeting and the funds are distributed by the Treasurer of the ISPN along with a letter of invitation from the Ways and Means committee. Any problems arranging visas or travel permits should be addressed to Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee who will liaise with the meeting host and the appropriate Consular offices.
